China sex-theme park shut down
After creating controversies for its adult and explicit themes, China's first planned private sex-theme park was closed prematurely following public outrage and immense pressure from local administration.
Built on the city of Chongqing, south western China the park named 'Love Land', was slated for an October opening, its aim was to provide 'sex education and harmonious sex' to the visitors, China Daily reported.
The park was demolished as it triggered huge public outcry after pictures of sculptures of naked men and women were out, with the officials terming it as "vulgar, ill-minded and misleading," the paper said.
The park also had an exhibition on the history of sex and had plans to offer workshops on sex technique and safe-sex methods. "Sex is a taboo subject in China but people really need to have more access to information about it. We are building the park for the good of the public," park's manager Lu Xiaoqing earlier told the paper.
However, academicians were not surprised with the park's demolition. "Sex is a matter of privacy. It is not for publicity," Peking University's Sociology expert, Xia Xueluan told the paper. The park was a part of entertainment development in the city with a budget of around USD 100 million.
