Monica was Chitra's daughter from an earlier marriage, but they all lived together after she married Jagjit Singh in 1969.

Zonal deputy commissioner of police, Niket Kaushik told MiD Day, "Monica was leading a disturbed family life and was suffering from depression for a long time."

Incidentally, Chitra and Jagjit's 19-year-old son Vivek also died in a road accident many years ago after which Chitra gave up singing.
The two had reportedly separated in the recent past.
