If bad omen theorists are to be believed, incident of bottle glass sticking in his foot at Virupaksha temple has not been good for him

The Chief Justice (CJ) of Karnataka PD Dinakaran's visit to the world famous Virupaksha temple in Hampi is responsible for his troubles of late, according to a prevailing myth.

Dinakaran, caught in a row of controversies, had visited the temple and paid obeisance. Most netas and bureaucrats avoid visiting the shrine, as a strange myth of losing power on seeing lord Shiva's idol in the temple, prevails since years.

If bad omen theorists in Hampi are to be believed, one of such visits by Dinakaran a few months ago is causing him troubles.

Meeting an accident (MiD DAY has access to the pictures), during his visit to the temple giving way to an alleged bad omen, was an indication of troubles ahead, say those who were part of the visit.

With the incident coming to light, leaders who were soon to be a part of the Hampi Utsav and 500 years of Krishnadevaraya's coronation to take place from January 27 to January 29, are said to be keeping off, informed the sources.

"The CJ visited Virupaksha temple on March 16," said a source present during Dinakaran's visit. "There was a bad omen as he entered temple premises.

A piece of bottle glass stuck in his right feet causing him to bleed. This was an indication of bad luck and we are witnessing it in his life now."

The belief

Dinakaran, now facing threat of being impeached had visited Hampi with his family in March 2009.

It was this visit, if talks now abuzz in Hampi are to be believed, which led Dinakaran to days of trouble. The visit was in contrast to an existing belief that one would lose power if they visit the temple.

Dinakaran is now suffering several set backs starting from Chennai-based Forum for Judicial Accountability's objection to his elevation as Supreme Court judge till the impeachment fear he is facing.

"Politicians and bureaucrats avoid visiting the temple. Politicians deliberately avoid their visit to temple even when they are in Bellary for campaigns during elections," said Shiv Bhat, a Pracharak in temple.

He added, "It is mainly due to the fear prevalent for the past several years that one would lose power a visit to the temple."
