During an interaction with a group of traders, Dikshit also asked them to carry out cleanliness drives in the market complexes and surrounding areas and remove posters and banners from the markets to present a clean image of the city. Noting that everyone has a responsibility to make the city "presentable" during the Games, she asked them to decorate their establishments with potted plants, 'welcome banners' and 'Shera', the logo of the event.
Last week, the city government had appealed to the citizens to whitewash and spruce up their houses ahead of the 12-day sporting event. Asking the traders to actively participate in the five-day long "Clean Delhi Drive", being launched by Delhi government on September 6, Dikshit said their cooperation towards the cleanliness drive will go a long way in making the city beautiful.
'Clean Delhi Drive' will be launched in 26 MCD areas and nine NDMC areas. Dikshit also asked the traders to put up 'Delhi Celebrates' logo designed by the Delhi government in the markets and shops. Delhi government will organise a series of programmes as part of 'Delhi Celebrates' campaign, which will be launched on September 3 in different parts of the city.
The government, apprehensive of people's disenchantment with the Games due controversies surrounding it, conceived the 'Delhi Celebrate' programme to attract people towards the Games. A CD containing 'Delhi Celebrates' logo and other designs were also distributed to the traders.
