Concrete plans to tackle fires during Games: Dikshit

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said fire services have made concrete plans to tackle any fire incidents during the Commonwealth Games this year.

She said that she is confident that Delhi Fire Service (DFS) will accomplish their responsibility for the successful organisation of the Games.

Speaking at the DFS' raising day function, Dikshit said: "Delhi Fire Service is striving hard to accomplish the entrusted responsibility and has a concrete plan for successful organisation of Commonwealth Games."

"A team of fire-fighters with water mist technology will be deputed inside the stadium for immediate response and to help in emergency evacuation. They will be backed up by standby fire engines positioned inside the stadium."

Dikshit said dedicated fire stations and separate Commonwealth Games fire control room are earmarked to handle fire incidents at the games village and venues.

"A secured wireless communication and automatic vehicle tracking system has been planned especially for the games," she added.

DFS director R.C. Sharma told IANS that they will station at least one fire engine outside every venue and two to three engines outside every major venue. "A total of 600 fire fighters would be deployed for the games," he added.

DFS recently procured ten fast response motorcycles with water mist technology, five specialised fast-response fire vehicles, specialised fire tenders, and personal protective equipment.
