Rahul Gandhi's upcoming visit has party leaders scurrying to make arrangements for programme, with hardly any time to relax

Siddaramaiah, a rally favourite, who spearheaded the padayatra from the city to Bellary, arrived at his official residence in Kumara Park at 1 am yesterday. Since he wanted to sleep, he had instructed his people not to disturb him until he calls them in the afternoon.

"Though I could have had a sound sleep, I got up early, at 11.30 am," said Siddaramaiah. After having a hot water bath, he had a chat with the press before having lunch at 2 pm. The dish was his favourite raagi mudde (ragi ball) and naati koli saaru (country chicken gravy).

Friends' day out

After relaxing for an hour, he held informal meetings with party members before he went to a friend's house to unwind. "All his close friends are going to come, and it's a strictly private affair," said a source close to Siddaramaiah. He will spend time playing cards, his favourite pastime, while other entertainments were on the list, said the source.

For RV Deshpande, KPCC president, it was just another hectic day. After he came back early morning yesterday at his residence in R T Nagar, Deshpande woke up early in the morning before he got ready for a press conference at the party office at 10.30 am.

Family time

He had only a little time at home to relax with his grandson, just before having dinneru00a0 with his family.

Then he had to attend a series of meetings, till late evening, to chalk out programmes for Rahul Gandhi, who is expected to interact with students in north Karnataka between 13 and 14 of this month.

"It is amazing to note his energy and enthusiasm at his age," said L Narayan, office secretary of KPCC. "Though he looked tired during the padayatra, he seems to have back to normalcy now."

Side-effects

DK Shivakumar, state working president of Congress, was last to arrive in the city. He came in a chartered flight and landed at 9.30 am. He came limping, and was whisked away to home by his family members, where a hot oil massage for his strained legs waited.

Referring to his unshaven look, the family members joked that he had gone back to his college days when he was bearded, but were concerned over his tanned skin. He had hurt his nose in a torch parade during the walkathon, and the family doctor was summoned for a checkup.

"I am feeling a little tired and the doctor will check my BP and sugar levels," he said. "I want to relax for a day before returning to the normal activities, and I am eagerly waiting to visit my constituency in Kanakapura."
