Congressman says he gave ex-MP Rs 2L for plum post

Manjunath accuses former MP Tesjaswini of neither keeping promise nor returning money, files police case

Manjunath, a member of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), has filed a complaint against Tejaswini, a journalist-turned-politician and former member of Parliament, of cheating him out of Rs 2 lakh. He alleged Tejaswini promised him a director's post in the railway board and later threatened him when he demanded his money back.

In his complaint to the Ashok Nagar police, Manjunath claimed that he along with other members of the KPCC worked hard to make her the MP under the guidance of KPCC working president DK Shivakumar. After successfully becoming an MP, she started claiming to be close to railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and promised to secure him a senior position. Manjunath alleged in the complaint that she had demanded Rs 5 lakh for the same and had taken Rs 2 lakh as advance. "Its 4 years now and neither did I get a seat nor my money was returned," said Manjunath in his complaint.

Manjunath also alleged that for 4 years, Tejaswini and her husband Ramesh ignored him whenever he approached them for his money. On December 21 last year, when they spotted Tejaswini speaking on a TV talk show, Shivakumar's supporters rushed to the media office and Manjunath allegedly demanded his money there.

"When I asked her to return my money, she abused me and threatened to kill me," said Manjunath.

More than the money what is provoking Manjunath is that Tejaswini allegedly used foul language against Kumar, stating that he is the instigator. "Its not the money which matters, but the language spoken against our party leaders. We were not intending to lodge any complaint, but Tejaswini lodged a complaint against our men on December 25, which provoked us to lodge a complaint in return."
