Sixty-year-old Saroj, a resident of Baljit Nagar, couldn't have even imagined that her attempt to register a complaint would end up in her getting beaten up and humiliated inside a police station. On April 17, Saroj's younger son Kamaljeet was returning home when he got caught in between the two clashing groups and was injured.

Seeing her son injured, Saroj along with her elder son Raman, neighbour Chotu and injured Kamaljeet went to Patel Nagar police station to lodge a complaint. However, the moment they entered the police station, one of the cops started shouting at Chotu asking him to get out while another started beating him. Seeing Chotu getting thrashed, Raman tried to intervene but the cops started beating him too.

"As I saw the cops beating my neighbour and my elder son, I tried to intervene and save them from their wrath. But an ASI Vikas Malik, who was in plain clothes, came running from other room and pushed me. When I resisted, he slapped me and started twisting my arm. I then complained about the incident in the same police station but they refused to register it. The incident was a huge embarrassment for me and my family," said Saroj while speaking to MiD DAY.

"After the incident, I called the PCR many times. When I finally got through, I told the police that I had been beaten up inside the police station. After hearing it, there was no response from them. The next day, I again tried to lodge a complaint against the guilty cops but a senior officer at the police station called them and scolded them in front of me and then told me to go home. I then again approached the cops and finally managed to file a complaint with the help of my advocate," Saroj added.

Saroj's husband had died two years back and her elder son works in news channel as a cameraman while her younger son runs his own business.u00a0u00a0u00a0"We have just received the complaint, so it's too early to say anything on the matter. We will investigate the case," said a senior police officer.

Student beaten up
In December last year, a Delhi University student was beaten up inside the Sunlight colony police station. The victim suffered short term paralysis after the incident. Three cops from the police station were suspended after MiD DAY reported the incident.
