Keen to have an insight into a few extraordinary minds as you sip on craft beer, and lounge in the relaxed environs of a loft? Head to Sidebar talks, a unique initiative, introduced to encourage creative interactions in an informal environment, under the umbrella of cultural events hosted by The Barking Deer, the city's first microbrewery.
This monthly event comprises a talk and creative salon with prominent creative minds and the inaugural session will witness an evening with the award-winning author Vikram Chandra in conversation with Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Geeta Anand.
"The idea is not only to impart knowledge but also make prominent personalities more accessible and involve audience participation in a very intimate setting. That's why it is called a creative salon," says Ryan Ballard, Sidebar coordinator, who has curated several cultural events in the city as well as in the US.
The talking point will be Chandra's latest non-fiction work, Mirrored Mind: My Life in Letters and Code, where he looks at connections between writing and coding technology, since he has worked as a computer programmer as well.
The event will be held at the venue's loft area where patrons can also enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and house beer tastings.
"The setting is more laid-back and relaxed, than say a book store or a café, and you can indulge in a few beers while chatting with the author," adds Ballard. While entry is free, prior registration is recommended due to limited seating.
