So, you thought theatre workshops were boring? Not when you get to play murder games, work on your vocal cords and design costumes

Next week, if you drop by at Prabhadevi's Ravindra Natya Mandir auditorium, you'll find a group of youngsters sitting in a circle on stage, playing Who Had Done A Murder, a popular party game where you have to "kill" the person by winking at them. This game is, in fact, part of a 10-day theatre workshop titled, Vision To Action, designed by Pallavi Gurjar.

To be held at two venues, it aims to give youngsters a platform to develop their talent in performing arts as well as communication skills. "The game makes you alert and helps with eye contact, a crucial element in a stage performance," says Gurjar, who has trained at the National School of Drama, and has been conducting theatre workshops for kids for 10 years.

"Until now, I would conduct sessions for children up to 14 years. This year, we have extended the age group to 28, so youngsters can participate too, and learn more about the technical possibilities and constraints when performing," adds Gurjar, who will conduct most of the sessions using audio-visual aids. Participants will be trained in voice culture to hone their vocal pitch, diction and body movement. They will also learn about character building and scriptwriting, along with the history of theatre. "I will rope in experts for sessions on set, light and costume design, as well as music direction," she shares. The workshop culminates with a demonstration in front of the participants' friends and family.
