Games' designated institutions may provide emergency medical care
Though no athlete or official preferred to stay in any of the three designated hospitals for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the city government has listed the same institutions for providing emergency medical care during the upcoming visit of US President Barack Obama.

(AIIMS) is one of the designated hospitals.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) and GB Pant Hospital have reportedly been designated for the Delhi visit of the 44th US President.
Delhi government sources told MiD DAY that the three hospitals, which were chosen for the mega sporting event, may also provide emergency medical care during Obama's visit. However, no official confirmed it but sources pointed out that no other government hospital in Delhi has the required infrastructure to deal with such high-profile cases.
When MiD DAY contacted the hospitals regarding the development, they refused getting any official communication in this regard.
"We have not received any letter from the government. We will be among the hospitals designated by the government, but we are waiting for the official letter," said Dr TS Sidhu, medical superintendent, RML Hospital.
"We should have got an official communication by now. It's difficult to say whether we are part of it or not," said a senior doctor with AIIMS, requesting anonymity.
According to the highly-placed sources in the Health Department, some private hospitals might also be involved.
"The hospitals will be most probably informed at the last moment due to security reasons," they said.
"I have no idea about it. Even I have to ask the chief minister about it," said Dr Kiran Walia, Delhi health minister.
Dr Veena Choudhary, Director, GB Pant Hospital and Dr RC Deka, Director, AIIMS were not available for comments.

A fitness freak, former US President George W Bush did not have chicken when the Rashtrapati Bhavan hosted him at the banquet during his visit in 2006. President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush got a taste of Indian cuisines at the banquet at the sprawling Mughal Gardens with lamb, fish and prawn comprising the main course of the dinner. |
