Maynard D'Mello scored five goals as Dominic Savio (Andheri) routed Our Lady of Remedy (Kandivli) 9-0 to enter the boys under-14 semifinals of the Poinsur Gymkhana inter-school football tournament.
While D’Mello was well supported by Gerson Creade, Karan Kattu, Glenn Lewis and Ryle Gonsalves, the lone goal for the losers came through Gyanchandra Pranav. Defending champions Don Bosco (Borivali) were given a tough time by Swami Vivekanand boys before they prevailed at 3-2 in the boys under-14 quarterfinals.
However, St. Francis D’Assisi (Borivali) outplayed Malad’s St Joseph 4-1 with Johnson Mathew getting a brace. In the boys under-16 matches, Don Bosco (Borivali) had another fruitful day as they thrashed Rustomjee International 6-0 with Melburn Vaz and Wayne Trinidade scoring a brace each. St. Francis D’Assisi overwhelmed Infant Jesus 9-0.
