Defunct women's helpline to be active soon

Party’s city president and MP Vandana Chavan said that now she’ll ensure that the helpline functions effectively and doesn’t face the same fate it met three years ago.u00a0

Sharing the new plan, Chavan said that a five-member committee would be set up for each constituency to address women’s grievances. A set format would be devised and given to attendants, based on which he or she would record complaints from callers. These calls would then be escalated to the concerned authority,” Chavan said.

She added that the call attendants, preferably women, would get remuneration for their services. The MP added that she would ensure that a copy of every complaint would reach her. The volunteers would also have to inform her regarding what action they would be initiating within two days of the complaints being registered.

Chavan said that the helpline number would be kept as simple as possible so that women could easily use it. The helpline number is likely to start functioning in the next 10 days after a meeting is held with the city police and discussion with the expert panel.u00a0
