Orkut poll scrutinises social networking trends of citizens
Love, style and patriotism are in the air for saddi Dilli, at least on the Internet.
The youth in the national capital are die-hard romantics and love their country, as a poll by social networking site Orkut revealed. The study was based on how people use and form communities on the Internet.u00a0
"Internet users from Delhi had a unique liking for stylish people, as communities based on them drew maximum traffic. It came on top last year too, which shows how fashion conscious Delhiites are becoming. Apart from style, the youth from the national capital showed special interest in communities about India, revealing the patriotic fervour," said Rahul Kulkarni, product manager, Google, pointing out the community 'Stylish People' witnessed maximum clicks from Chandigarh as well.
Out of the 20 million users across India, majority are in the age group of 18 to 24 years.u00a0 Kulkarni also pointed out the fetish for love and romantic communities among the citizens of the national capital. "Come fall in love, Eyes never lie and Chocolate are among the top 10 communities on Orkut being subscribed to by Delhiites."
The result also showed how netizens take keen interest in relevant topics about latest happenings around them. "Last year, when the economy was in bad shape, the focus was on the Indian stock market. Now, Bollywood stars are grabbing a lot of attention," said Kulkarni. Salman Khan is the most popular in the northern region while Shahid Kapoor topped across India.
Besides, with the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, the craze around communities dedicated to football teams has also increased. "Arsenal FC, Manchester United, Liverpool FC, English Premier League and Chelsea FC are among the most popular. As for cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rahul Dravid still rule," he said.
Talking about the music industry Kulkarni said AR Rahman, Enrique Iglesias and Michael Jackson walk away with the cake. "Also, the choice of themes reveal that youngsters here like bright and happening places with an Indian twist," said Kulkarni.
