Delhi, Ranchi log identical victories in HIL
Delhi Waveriders and Ranchi Rhinos registered identical 2-1 wins on Day Two of the inaugural Hockey India League yesterday
While Delhi beat Mumbai Magicians at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium here, Ranchi stunned the Jaypee Punjab Warriors in their own backyard in Jalandhar.
Rupinder Pal Singh (26th minute) and Norris Jones (49th) scored for Delhi, while Sandeep Singh pulled one back for Mumbai in the 50th minute. Sandeep had a golden opportunity to draw level when Glenn Turner earned the Mumbai outfit a penalty corner a minute from the final whistle. However, the star drag-flicker failed to score again.
Earlier, at the Surjeet Singh Stadium in Jalandhar, Rhinos’ Ashley Jackson gave his team the lead through a neatly executed drag flick in the 43rd minute, before adding a field goal six minutes later for 2-0. Punjab pulled one back in the fourth and final quarter through Australian Kieran Govers and built the pressure, but the Rhinos held on for victory.
