Aathmajaa is the newest entrant in the online shopping space that not just offers an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary sarees but also lets you design your own saree
When their jobs, as an engineer and a business analyst, ceased to interest Chennai girls Bhuvanee Manogar and Preethi Ravichandran, they racked their brains for an option that they could take up along with their professions. As a result they zeroed in on a field that was alien to them — design. Thus, was born Aathmajaa (Sankrit: soul joy of a woman), an online saree boutique.

“Against a predictable scenario, we wanted to do something different that could give the pleasure of pursuing a passion. We are maniac shoppers, but never thought about getting into fashion. It began with designing our friend’s sarees for fun; later, this passion and the inspiration to design surfaced,” reveals Manogar.
The online shopping destination offers a range of sarees from traditional to contemporary designs ranging from R1,500 to R6,000. They also facilitate the concept of a DIY (Design It Yourself) saree, which follows an ABCD code: Contact (A)athmajaa, Quote your (B)udget, Choose your (C)olours and Select your (D)esigns.
“Our clients love this concept as they get what they want and they don’t have to go through numerous sarees to find their favourite. Our customers get their sarees customised as per their choice and we see a massive involvement from their end,” informs Manogar.
The Budget for DIY Sarees ranges from R2,000 to R20,000, and the price depends on fabrics, borders, embroideries and patterns that the customer choose. The delivery time for customised orders is about two weeks while those on the online store take 2-5 workings days.
