Dhruv failed to make an impact in the first quarter as a result of which last year’s runner-up St Joseph’s, were trailing 1-5 with Campion skipper Ram Rathod scoring four points for his team. Don Bosco (Matunga) are the defending champions.
In the second quarter, Dhruv was rested and St Joseph’s rallied to 10-5 thanks to Umang Achalia and Ayaan Mulani, who scored four points each.
Final flourish
However, Dhruv made the most of the next two quarters, converting a couple of free-throws and adding three quick baskets as St Joseph’s stormed into the quarter-finals.
"Dhruv was in our 'B' team last year, where showed a lot of improvement and so got picked into the ‘A’ team. He has proved to be a crucial player for us this season," said St Joseph’s coach Somnath Kamble.
Dhruv was grateful to coach Kamble for selecting him into the ‘A’ team. “I did not have a good tournament last year as the 'B' team crashed out in the second round, but I have the opportunity of making up for that by helping my team go a step forward and win the title this time round,” he said.
