The pyjama party
Dance forms: Salsa, Mambo, Bachata and Kizomba

Fancy dancing the Salsa in your pyjamas? Attend Dance Design’s social nights and you could be dancing in your PJs, and even get the chance to munch on goodies. “We try something different every time, including changing the décor and sticking to a theme,” says founder Sahiba Sawhney.

The socials are held on the last Saturday of every month. There are two floors, with different DJs. The Sensual Room is for Bachata and Kizomba; the Salsa room also includes Mambo.

They even organise open workshops for newbies and advanced learners, so you learn how to dance and then spend the whole night practising!

The sounds of music
Dance forms: Salsa, Cha Cha, Jive, Bachata, Tango and Kizomba
“I’ve been hosting nights like these for 10 years, across the city,” says dancer Vineet Bangera, founder of Dance Central studio. His current focus is the Latino Nights, started last April, which are held every Monday at Escobar. The dance styles are primarily Salsa and Bachata. The open night sees students of the studio, dancers and even non-dancers burning up the dance floor.

Bangera is proud of the music, which he curates himself. “This is actual, authentic, music that pertains to these dance styles.
It enhances the experience,” he adds.

On Mondays, 9 pm to 1 am

The Latino twist

Every Wednesday night, Shiro turns into a party zone where guests try out their Salsa moves. Titled the Latin Twist by Mary & Derek, the dance nights are hosted by Mary Lobo and Derek Spencer. “These allow you to socialise and test your dancing skills,” says Spencer. They also host theme nights (like Halloween or Christmas), and encourage dance schools to attend and showcase their skills.

On Wednesdays, 10.30 pm

Slow and sensual
Dance forms: Tango, Bachata, Kizomba, Mambo and Salsa
Sultry Latin tunes and foot-tapping Salsa moves? Get all this and more at Latin Nights organised by creative space, House of Wow. Their Studio Socials (on the lines of Dance socials), began in 2015, and are held on a weekly or bi-monthly basis.
As a bonus, most socials of Kizomba and Bachata begin with a demo class with experts roped in by the studio, which makes it easier for beginners to step in too. The 30 to 45-minute session leads into the social dancing where a DJ plays specific Latino music.

On Friday or Saturday, 6 pm to 10 pm
At Natraj Building, opposite St Stanislaus High School, Hill Road, Bandra (W).
Call 9930246031
Entry Rs. 300 to Rs. 700 per person including food
