Do Knot Disturb - Movie Review

WHAT'S IT ABOUT: Just when you're beginning to believe that comedy in Indian films has got past the amateurish stage comes a movie like Do Knot Disturb to shatter that notion. How many times is director David Dhawan going to subject us to inane situations created around cheating husbands and insipid wives?

Yet another story knitted around comedy's favourite subject: cheating. When suspicious wife Kiran (Sushmita Sen) comes across her husband Raj's (Govinda) photograph with his arm-squeeze Dolly (Lara Dutta), she confronts him.

But he convinces her that she is the girlfriend of Govardhan (Riteish Deshmukh) a passerby who is snapped up accidentally in the picture. He then traces Govardhan and pays him pretend to be Dolly's lover to hoodwink the detective (Ranvir Shorey) that his rich wife has hired.

What's hot: There are very few scenes in the film that make you giggle. The one with Govinda and Sushmita in the hotel, Govardhan's mother in the hospital watching TV and imagining her son is working with smugglers and when Ranvir is convinced that he is actually John Matthews.

Not only does the script lack any trace of novelty factor, the film is also filled with tepid performances. Lara, who was a delight in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, is hugely disappointing in DKD.

Sush seems more concerned with playing the (extra large) real-life diva that she is. Govinda is stagnating in the same kind of roles that ceased being funny after the first ten times. Riteish is the only saving grace.

Ranvir Shourey is wasted in the idiotic part. Sohail Khan as the dumped boyfriend with anger management issues manages to get a few laughs.

What's not: The Govinda-David jodi is responsible for lots of funny films; this isn't one of them. Wish people spent as much time thinking about the script of the film, as they do promoting the film.

Even with two hours running time, you're left feeling bored. David Dhawan attempts to do a Anees Bazmee (a la No Entry) but it doesn't work. The director needs to reinvent himself. As does Govinda. You cannot rely on the glory of past hit films forever.

What to do: Just watch the episode of 10 Ka Dum which featured Govinda, Riteish and David. It is far more entertaining than the film.
