The four minute clip surfaced last week showing Dr Ghulam Qadir Sofi, the Chief Medical Officer of South Kashmir's Pulwama district having sex with a woman. Sofi was arrested by the police on Thursday and sent to ten day judicial remand.

According to the sources, the woman in the clip had approached Sofi for a job in the district health department. It is also said that the clip is part of a bigger sex net that involved luring job seeking women into having sex with high ranking officials.

However, Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Kifayat Haider told MIDDAY, "The accused has been arrested and we are still trying to ascertain the identity of the person in the clip. We are waiting for the forensic report". He also said that investigations so far have not revealed why the clip had been shot"

According to the police, the clip has been shot by two employees in Sofi's office in September last year. Police has registered a case in Police station Pulwama FIR no. 121/2010 under section 376 (d) RPC.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

What makes Sofi's involvement in so significant is that he is a senior doctor in the state health department and was a key member in the team of doctors that conducted the post mortem of the two women, Asiya Jan, 22 and her sister in law Neolofar Jan, 17 whose bodies were found by a stream in South Kashmir's Shopian district in May last year. The team of doctors including Sofi on the examination of the dead bodies revealed that both the women had been raped.

Following the results of the medical report, Kashmir witnessed massive protests and shutdowns led by both the factions of the separatist Hurriyat Conference claiming that the women had been raped and murdered by the security forces.

However, later when the case was handed over to the CBI and fresh autopsies were carried out. It was revealed that the women had not been raped and had died because of drowning. The CBI also Charge sheeted 13 doctors including Sofi for fudging evidence. But Sofi was out on bail and was serving as the Chief Medical Officer Pulwama district.
