A giant Gulmohar tree came crashing down on an auto rickshaw injuring the driver, and damaging three other vehicles on a busy street next to Ambedkar garden in Chembur yesterday. The incident took place at 10.15 am, as heavy rains lashed the city.
Sudhakar Nanasaheb Kumbarkar (44), the auto rickshaw driver, was first taken to Maa hospital by some bystanders after which he was transferred to Sion hospital later in the afternoon.u00a0

Kumbarkar sustained a back injury and had difficulty walking when he was brought to Sion hospital. The on-duty medical officer stated that after the X-ray tests were conducted, the auto driver would be admitted to the orthopaedic ward.
The three other vehicles — Honda city, Swift Dzire and Bolero jeep — were also damaged after the tree fell in the busy street.
Ramesh Sonandkar, senior inspector with Chembur police station, said, “The auto rickshaw was completely damaged after the incident and the driver has been sent to Sion hospital. Thankfully, no pedestrians were injured in the mishap.”u00a0
