Despite playing with just 10 players, St Anne's High School (Fort) registered a resounding 10-0 victory over Shri Mammabai High School (Chinchpokli) to reach the final of the District Sports Office (DSO) U-17 girls inter-school football tournament at Worli Sports Club yesterday.

Renee Talati and Tricia Colaco were the stars of the match with four goals apiece. Andrea Vaz netted a brace. Going into the game, St Anne's could only field 10 players as one of their players fell ill at the last moment. Despite that, the Fort outfit played with great vigour and pegged Shri Mammabai back. Renee, Tricia and company bombarded the opposition defence with numerous shots and crosses so much so that Mammabai could not withstand the pressure, faltering as the game went on.

In the other semi-final, Bombay Scottish School (Mahim) beat NSS Hill Spring International School (Tardeo) 4-3 in the tie-breaker after the match ended goalless in regulation time. Renee is expecting a tough match against the Mahim side. "We have beaten them earlier, but this time I am expecting a really tough match. I am optimistic we
can win," Renee told mid-day.

"We lost in the same tournament in the final last year. Our players aren't as tough this time but we have really made an effort and it is working out," she added. Coach of St Anne's, Prashant Bangale was pleased that the team won despite being a player short, but will remain on guard against Bombay Scottish in the final. "It was a good performance even though we played a man short. But it will be a very tough match against a good Bombay Scottish side," Bangale said.
