Eight killed in Kandahar attack: Govt

Eight people were killed in an attack that included two suicide bombings at the provincial council offices in Afghanistan's southern city of Kandahar, the interior ministry told AFP.

"Seven civilians and one policeman were martyred in this incident," ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said.

Health officials had earlier said six Afghans were killed and 16 wounded.

Two suicide attackers had blown themselves up at the offices and two others were shot dead before they could detonate their explosives, Bashary said. "The situation is under control," he said.
