Enjoy 'me-time' and give your muscles much-needed stress relief with Vir Mardana, an Indian deep tissue body massage, at this beautiful spa by the bay

The view of the Arabian Sea was the clincher. As we stepped into Rewa Escape, a spa in one of the bylanes off Pedder Road hoping to de-stress from the bustle and din, it was a matter of seconds before the disconnect happened. Having undergone an expansion recently, the spa now comprises two new body massage suites with a host of wet massage therapies added to its menu. We were spoilt for choice with body rituals like Rasamrit Ubtan (spice scrub), Prithvi Alepa (black soil wrap) and Surbhi Mardana (aromatherapy body massage.) We zeroed in on Vir Mardana — an Indian deep tissue body massage, touted to work on relieving stress from the roots leading to enhanced mobility of joints.

The treatment began with a foot soak followed by muscle massage covering the back, hands, legs as well as stomach. With lulling music, dimmed lights and the view of a wintry, blue sky visible from our suite window, we felt our stress ebbing away as trained hands applied pressure on every joint using non-greasy and aromatic rose oil. While there was finesse in the technique —the masseuse even used elbows to apply pressure on certain parts — what made the treatment more effective was the use of warm water compresses that were applied to our back and legs throughout the massage. This 75-minute treatment was followed by a refreshing steam bath.

Though a tad steep, the treatment helped our body feel renewed and more agile. While we were pressed for time, we suggest you spend a couple of hours more at the spa—recline with a book in their reading room or sip on green tea in their lawn, soaking in the serene environs before you head back into the noisy city.
