Cold wave conditions continued in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, with district capital Leh recording a minimum temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius, an official said.

"In Leh town, the maximum temperature yesterday (Monday) was minus 0.2 degrees, the minimum temperature fell to minus 18 degrees today (Tuesday). In Kargil town, the maximum temperature was minus 6 degrees yesterday while the minimum was minus 16.8 degrees," local weather office director Sonam Lotus said.

"Dry weather with clear night skies is expected during the next four to five days and this would result in further fall in the night temperatures both in the Valley and the Ladakh region," he added.

The weather in the state's summer capital Srinagar improved Tuesday as the minimum temperature rose above the freezing point. "The minimum temperature in Srinagar rose to two degrees Celsius today while the maximum yesterday was 5.6 degrees," Lotus said.
