Less than 24 hours before racing past Ana Ivanovic to win the Porsche Grand Prix title in Stuttgart on Sunday, Maria Sharapova was in another race, albeit off court!

Sharapova was driven around in a sports car by ex-Formula One driver Mark Webber during a promotional event on Saturday.

Needless to say, Webber enjoyed the company of his beautiful passenger. “It was great to drive Maria along. She was a lovely passenger. In fact, she actually wanted me to go quicker,” said Webber, who has played quite a bit of tennis himself as a kid.

“I’m Australian and we love our tennis, so I grew up playing the game a lot back home. I have some very good friends, who have played at the highest level too like Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter,” he said.

In fact, the former Red Bull teammate of four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, also went on to make quite an accurate prediction for the final. “Today, Maria played very well and she looks very strong going into tomorrow’s final,” he said after Sharapova semi-final win over Sara Errani on Saturday.

World No 9 Sharapova rightly emerged victorious in Sunday’s final beating Serbian Ivanovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
