The 147-year-old St Vincent’s High School is back in the news, and for all the right reasons. The home team of Indian Super League (ISL), FC Pune City, will be using the school’s ground to hold pre-match practice sessions for the current season.
“We are happy that the next generation will be benefited from this effort, which I’m sure is a blessing. In the future, we could see more youngsters making it to the football league, and even at international events,” said Principal of the school, Fr Andrew Fernandes.

Commenting on its decision, FC Pune City CEO, Gaurav Modwel, said, “St Vincent’s school is in the main city and close to the hotel where our players are staying. Above all, we are starting a development programme for budding footballers, which will be a long-term association with the school.”
The school has produced several athletes in the past, who have represented the country at international sporting events.
“For the time being, we did a quick-fix job of setting the ground’s surface. But, a lot needs to be done. We may give the venue an international flavour, but the final decision is yet to be taken. For now, we’ll stick to organising development programmes,” said Modwel.
