The Metro Matrix already has you. Now, it's time to reload.

Neo woke up to saw a message on his computer screen to find that he is the chosen one. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), after setting many a benchmarks on the rail tracks, has proposed to revamp its websites to be among one of the best in its class. The existing website https://www.delhimetrorail.com/ was developed ten years ago and the mass rapid transit system is now looking to compete with its counterparts in Singapore and Hong Kong. The two Southeast Asian metro rail networks are considered to have best websites in their category.

"We have effected some changes in the website from time to time but with the expanding network it was required that we should revamp our presence on the Internet to suit the new demands and needs," Dayal said.

He pointed out that the DMRC network has already crossed 200 km of network in Delhi and NCR and the rider ship is estimated to touch 2 million mark soon. "The estimated cost for revamp of the website is Rs 10 lakh," Dayal said.

New server

One of the most prominent changes is that the new website would be hosted by a new server nic.in and therefore, the new website would be https://www.delhimetrorail.gov.in/ rather than the existing .com.

"We have studied the websites of all the prominent Metro networks in the world, including Singapore and Hong Kong. Some of the useful features have been taken from these websites to make the new site commuter-friendly," Dayal said.

Features

The new website will have animated videos and audio tools to guide the passengers how to ride an escalator, teach the correct way of boarding and de-boarding, lessons about Metro security and interactive maps of the entire rail network. There will also be an automatic fare collector, which will help a passenger to calculate fare between two chosen destinations. Once a passenger gets himself registered on the website, he will get regular updates on maintenance work or any disruptions. Also, the regular media releases will also be uploaded on the site.

It will also feature a calendar of the DMRC and its running schedule and a feedback section where passengers can register their queries and complaints.

Lost and found

Metro's new website will have a unique section where passengers can register loss of luggage and check if any station controller has retrieved it. The feature will help thousands of passengers who have go around stations to search for their lost items. The website will be bilingual.

"The Delhi Metro staff will be trained for one month by the developing agency," the spokesman added.
