An FIR has been registered against Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy for writing an anti-Muslim article for a national English daily. The FIR has been registered by Crime Branch of Delhi police under Section 153A (spreading enmity between communities) of the Indian Penal Code.

A crime branch official said Swamy wrote the articleu00a0 in July this year. "Such an article can provoke people and lead to riots," the official said. The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) had in August decided to file a case against Swamy for his remarks and senior lawyer R K Anand had filed a complaint in this regard.

Swamy wrote, "If any Muslim acknowledges his or her Hindu legacy, then we Hindus can accept him or her as a part of the Brihad Hindu Samaj (greater Hindu society), which is Hindustan."
