The attack took place in front of the builder’s bungalow on Manvel Pada Road, Virar (East). The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed at the bungalow and the footage helped the police arrest the two former partners, identified as Mehul Kumar and Dagdu alias Chandu Patil, hours after the attack.

The Nalasopara police said that around 1.30 am yesterday, builder Kooldeep Chaudhary and his friend Harish Dubey returned to the builder’s residence after watching a movie. As they alighted from the car, the duo arrived on a motorcycle and one of them started firing. While Choudhary escaped, Dubey sustained a bullet wound in the leg. The accused fired four rounds before making a run for it.

Dubey was admitted to the ICU in Alliance Hospital, Nalasopara. A few hours later, the two accused were detained from a nearby area. Recently, Chaudhary had registered an FIR against the two business partners, blaming them of forgery amounting to Rs 4 lakh. The duo was supposed to be arrested in the case yesterday. However, they decided to attack the builder before that.

Virar cops

The Nalasopara police registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and several section of the Arms Act and are using the CCTV footage as vital evidence. On February 16, a controversial builder Sunil Kumar Loharia from Navi Mumbai was shot dead by two assailants. The murder was captured on CCTV, which became a crucial piece of evidence for the police.
