Delhi government decides to reward all ten city athletes who made podium finishes at CWG

Many have said that CWG 2010 was rescued by sportsmen and women. Now the city government has decided to show its gratitude."An award of Rs 15 lakh will be given to each gold medallist from Delhi, Rs 10 lakh to silver medallists and Rs 5 lakh each to bronze medallists," said Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday, adding that the coaches of these athletes will also get Rs 5 lakh each.

The decision was taken by Delhi cabinet in a meeting yesterday. "The people of Delhi have much more expectations from their talented players. The newly developed sports infrastructure has become an integral part of the city's legacy.u00a0 The infrastructure will be utilised in such a way to prepare competent enough sportspersons in order to grab maximum medals in the future," said Dikshit.u00a0

Ten medal winners at Commonwealth Games 2010, who are from Delhi, will be awarded by the city government. Seven are wrestlers and the remaining three are shooters.

The gold medal winners in Wrestling are Sushil Kumar (66 kg free style), Yogeshwar Dutt (60 kg free style), Ravinder Singh (60 kg Greco- Roman) and Sanjay (74 kg Greco-Roman) whereas silver medals were bagged by Joginder Kumar (120 kg free style) and Dharmendra Dalal (120 kg Greco-Roman).u00a0 A bronze was also won by Anil Kumar (55 kg free style).u00a0
Silver medals were bagged by Deepak Sharma (Pistol 50 metres Team Event) and Mansher Singh (Trap Shooting) whereas Samresh Jung bagged a silver in 25 metres Team Event and a bronze in 25 metres individual event.
