A textile retailer who left home for work on Tuesday and never returned in the evening was found murdered at his rented warehouse in Elphinstone Road in the wee hours of yesterday. Garment and cloth retailer Deepak Kadam was found with stab wounds to his cheek, neck and chest. Police said that the victim was killed with a pair of scissors after they found the murder weapon at the scene of the crime.

Tragic: 45-year-old businessman Deepak Kadam had rented a flat at Sadguru Darshan in NM Joshi Marg, which he used as a workshop for his cloth business

According to the police, Deepak had rented a flat at Sadguru Darshan, NM Joshi Marg, which he used as a workshop, while he resided with his mother, wife and daughter in the adjoining Sidhi Sadhan apartments.

The deceased’s brother Mahesh Kadam said, “Deepak left home on Tuesday at 11 am and as usual was supposed to return at 8 pm. But, he did not turn up after which his wife Deepika and daughter Divya telephoned him continuously, but after they didn’t get any reply, and they subsequently informed us.”

Kadam’s family members then began tracing him, and after a few hours, his nephew Amit Pawar found his body at his workshop at 12.15 am, after which the police were notified.

Sudhakar J Ghagare, senior police inspector with N M Joshi Marg police station said, “We were informed about the incident from the control room, following which a police team was immediately dispatched to the spot. The victim was stabbed with a pair of scissors and we have recovered the murder weapon from the scene of the crime.”

Ghagare ruled our robbery as the motive, saying, “No valuables are missing from the victim’s body. We have even recovered his mobile phone from the spot. There is a possibility that the crime was committed after a heated argument because if the killer had pre-planned the murder he would have used a chopper. There were 10 to 12 stab wounds on the victim’s body.”

Police detained two persons in connection with case. One person identified as Javed was questioned by the cops, as he was the last person the deceased person spoke to from his mobile phone at 4.23 pm. The second person was interrogated after the victim’s wife cast her doubts on him. The police officials haven’t arrested either of them. A case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.u00a0
