Get on the Flight now!

On May 8, fellow band members and self strolled into a movie theatre after a very long time.u00a0 We were all set to watch Iron Maiden's tour documentary, Flight 666, based on their Somewhere Back In Time tour.

The documentary opens with Maiden's Bangalore tour, and the song, Aces High. The atmosphere inside the theatre is electric, and every now and then we hear fans scream when they catch sight of themselves on the big screen!u00a0

The documentary itself has beenu00a0 well thought out. Informative nuggets from Bruce Dickenson (lead vocalist and pilot) gives you some idea of what it must have taken to organise the 6-week tour, which covered 21 shows across 4 continents.

I enjoyed the song selection Hallowed Be Thy Name, Run to the Hills, Wasted Years and Rime of the Ancient Mariner were particularly spectacular.

u00a0It was clear that there was a logic to the unfolding of events, choice of venues, songs played at each venue,u00a0 clips of the band's very own Ed Force One arriving and departing at various airports, and the in-flight scenes. You would be inspired to travel and live life to the fullest, even though you are not Iron Maiden.

Sound bytes from band members about themselves, their music and their world tour add a warm, personal touch to the film. They speak about their hobbies (golf and tennis), making it clear that rock n roll isn't only about sex and drugs.

Dave Murray says he would rather spend 5 hours golfing and 1 hour drinking than vice-versa.

Bruce Dickenson says achievement is about making a difference and offering hope. "The money will come which is a good thing as well," he adds.

The film shows Maiden fans, who had camped out for a week to make sure they got in first when the gates to the concert opened.

Including the fans of Maiden in the movie was a neat idea because it not only shows how important crowd support is for a band, but it also spotlights Maiden as 'the' band.

The clips on the 70-member crew show how much hard work goes intou00a0 putting together a Maiden show.
The camaraderie that the band members share on the plane and their banter with the smiling airhostesses got me thinking of getting my own plane, or at least an airhostess for starters!
