Give time till Aug for 2011-12 development work: Bagul

Congress leader in the PMC house Aba Bagul has demanded that the period for developmental work in the 2011-12 budget be extended up to August. Bagul placed the proposal before the standing committee on Monday seeking the extension for developmental work of Rs 1,900 crore till August, instead of March 31.

Bagul said, "Frequent provision of model code of conduct due to Khadakwasla by poll in the last year and the recently held civic elections held up the developmental works."

According to the model code of conduct, developmental work cannot be carried out in the period of code of conduct.u00a0 Bagul added that there were just few days left to end the existing period and then the fund for the developmental work would get lapsed.

In its Rs 3,200-crore budget for the year 2011-12, the PMC had earmarked Rs 1,900 crore for capital expenditure and developmental works.

Bagul said, "PMC will suffer a loss of nearly Rs 200 crore if the funds lapse at the end of the month."

He further added that if this duration is extended by five months, then the fund of the budget can be used on what the PMC has made provision.

"I hope the standing committee chairman will accept my proposal in its next meeting and extend the duration for capital expenditure by five months," Bagul said.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
