Often compared to her, Raima recently received an award on behalf of her grandmother who was then hospitalised in Kolkata.

And not just that, she also played the doting granddaughter, spending quality time with her granny at the hospital. Raima chats with CS about her admiration for her grandmother:
Woman of character
I have never seen a woman as strong as her. She has immense strength and always stands by her word, no matter what. Though she's in her late 70s, she still commands the same amount of respect from everyone. No one has the guts to defy her, not even our mother. I wish I could be as strong as her! She is a woman with will-power and a high self-esteem.
She decided to leave the industry at the peak of her career and she did. But what amazed everyone was that she never looked back. The glamour world is addictive and not many have the strength and conviction to turn our backs to all the glitz associated with it. But, grandma managed it with poise. Watching her, I too have learnt how to be firm about certain things.
My 'role' model
Nani lived a very dignified life and she continues to do so. I've never heard people speak ill of her. No matter what she did, the roles she portrayed or the way she dressed, no one could ever point a finger at her. Everyone respected and admired her, there was really no one who could critically judge her.
She was and is a very warm and loving person who is also very comfortable with people. I still remember the lavish birthday parties she threw when we were kids. She would steal the limelight during such parties with her humour and charm. She still teases us with our alleged affairs in the media and threatens to spill the beans to our parents (laughs). Luckily, we have all inherited her social skills.
We are family
When nani decided to enter the film industry, there were very few opportunities for women artists. Initially, during her struggling days, she gave a number of screen tests but the industry just refused to accept her.

Tired, one day she said, "I won't give any screen tests anymore and the industry will notice me" and her words came true. She made it big in the industry with her sheer hard work and acting skills.
Her never-say-die spirit has always fascinated and encouraged me. Though people say that I have inherited her looks as well as her acting skills, I feel I have a long way to go to get in the same league as her.
