The right choice
I was in junior college because it was my only option -- if I didn't enroll right after high school, I would have had no path to any future. Two years in junior college became the jumping-off point for everything that came later. I think this was the same for others -- not just kids out of high school, but guys back from Vietnam, wives going back to school after their kids were older, and folks who were looking to change their lives for the better.
Naughty boy
In my teens, I was a geek, a little mad (insane). I was horribly, painfully, and terribly shy. At the same time, I was the guy who'd yell out funny captions during filmstrips. But I didn't get into trouble as I was always a real good kid and pretty responsible. But yes, I had some teachers who looked a lot like Julia Roberts. I would see them and think, I love you.
My calling
For a guy like me, one who liked to make a lot of noise and be rather flamboyant, acting classes looked like the best place. I spent a lot of time going to plays. But I wouldn't take dates with me. I'd just drive to a theatre, buy myself a ticket, sit in the seat, and read the programme, and then get into the play completely. I spent a lot of time like that, seeing Bertolt Brecht, Tennessee Williams, Henrik Ibsen, and all that, and now look at me, acting is my job. I wouldn't have it any other way.
