Husband executed the murder from jail, after she refused to get back with him

THE woman advocate who was hacked to death in broad daylight in Jayanagar recently may have been murdered on the orders of her husband.

Investigations by the Jayanagar police has revealed that her husband, a rowdy sheeter, had given supari to two of his associates for eliminating her.

A day before the murder, he had got himself arrested by Basavanagudi police to create an alibi.u00a0 The deceased Gayathri, 23, an advocate who was employed with ING Vysya, was in love with Raja, whom she had married three years back. Soon she came to know his criminal background and began living separately.

Raja, who has a dozen criminal cases pending against him, started harassing her to persuade her to come back.

He even beat up his in-laws and threatened them with dire consequences if they continued to shelter their daughter. Provoked by the threats, Gayathri met a senior police officer complaining of harassment and later filed a complaint with the Basavanagudi police station.

The police then arrested Raja on the charges of assaulting his in-laws and harassing his wife. But the harassment did not stop, as Raja continued to send threatening text messages to his wife from jail. Gayathri then approached joint commissioner of police Alok Kumar complaining of harrassment.u00a0

u00a0When Alok Kumar asked her to file one more complaint with Basavanagudi police, Gayathri was apprehensive that Raja would be enraged and would harm her and her family somehow. The police's assurances that she would be given protection soon proved futile after killers allegedly hired by Raja murdered her while she was on her way to work. Raja reportedly gave supari to his associates to eliminate Gayathri to avenge his detention. He later got himself arrested for a murder case that occurred in 2000, in which he was the accused.

The Jayanagar police conducted a detailed probe into the murder and learned that Gayathri was receiving threats from Raja and also discovered that Raja was arrested a day before the murder. This led the police to suspect his involvement and further investigations revealed that Raja had indeed given supari for his wife's murder.

The police have formed two teams to nab the two killers.
