Hoax caller nabbed for threatening CM

Save her - these are the two words this hoax caller used, claiming Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's life was in danger. And this wasn't a one time occurrence. Ravinder Tyagi, who is now in police custody, would often call up the Police Control Room (PCR), asserting, for instance, that a bomb had been planted at the CM's home, or a contract killer was stalking her. The telecom company employee was arrested from north Delhi.

"He claimed that he was a well-wisher of the Delhi Chief Minister. He would call up PCR and would make various claims about the CM's life being in danger. But his claims turned out to be bogus every time," said a senior police officer.u00a0u00a0

The officer said that several raids were conducted to nab him but he managed to evade the cops for a long while.

"It appears that he is mentally disturbed. But he was working as a senior executive with a private telecom company and reportedly was a competent employee. He made the calls just for fun, claiming to be a well-wisher of the CM," said the police officer.

The officer said that Tyagi used to make calls from his cell phone at the CM's residence. An FIR in this regard was registered at Tughlak Road police station of New Delhi District.

Child's play ?

The Delhi police's control room receives several crank calls daily, some of them about blasts and terrorist attacks. All these calls, however, have to be taken seriously as the cops cannot leave anything to chance. But July 13 turned out to be a slightly unusual day for the men in khaki. Delhi police received a PCR call about imminent blasts in the Capital.
Immediately security was tightened in the city, barricades were put up in sensitive areas, frisking of people began. After long hours of search and investigations the cops found nothing suspicious.
Then the Indraprastha (IP) estate police station began tracing the mobile number that was used to make the call.
The address was found to be that of a bookbinding shop in Mukherjee Nagar area of north Delhi. The cops found the owner of the number Amit Tiwari, an employee of the store. The cops detained Amit and started investigations.
The cops began to suspect that either Amit's mobile had been cloned or the family was lying. Then 7-year-old boy Sonu (name changed), Amit's younger brother, stood up and claimed responsibility for the situation.
The whole drama ended with the kid's confession, and the cops went back to work with wry smiles on their faces.
