Hospital blames MLA for abusing doctors, damaging property

District civil surgeon Vinayak More has accused MLA Laxman Jagtap of abusing doctors from the civil hospital and damaging its property yesterday afternoon. On the other hand Jagtap, while denying the allegations, said the doctors were not doing their duty and were misbehaving.

According to a witness, the MLA arrived and started badmouthing the civil surgeon.

“I was having a talk with the civil surgeon, when MLA Laxman Jagtap came and started abusing him. The doctor spoke politely and tried to calm him down.

However, the MLA was not in a mood to listen. The civil surgeon took him to show him the wards, but the neta again started abusing him, as there no doctor he wanted to meet was present.”

Speaking to MiD DAY, More said “He found something wrong and started abusing the other doctors and me. He had a petty issue in mind and was not even listening to us. Then he went on to damage some property.”

When contacted, Laxman Jagtap denied all the allegations and said “Yesterday, some doctor from YCM called the civil surgeon to check the availability of anti-venom, but he behaved rudely with him. When I came to know about this, I decided to visit the hospital. When I sought a clarification, the civil surgeon did not offer a reply. Then I demanded to see the various wards and also asked the reason for patients being diverted to YCM, but he declined and asked me to provide my queries in writing.”

According to the MLA, not a single doctor was present in the ICU ward, “When we visited the ICU ward, the doctor-on-call was not around. The doctor in question is a resident of Nigadi area. How will he reach the hospital in time for an emergency?” he questioned.
