How to bell virtual CAT?

The CAT will be out of the bag soon, but those burning the midnight oil to master tricks to bell the virtual CAT are already having anxiety attacks because of the changed test patterns this year. While some candidates are rushing to coaching centers, others are seeking online guidance to prepare to the management entrance test.
Institutes are sending out regular motivating mails to aspirants hoping to calm their nerves, as the dates of the exam draw closer.

Nervous lot? Aspirants are skeptical whether they will be able to crack
the CAT this time

"CAT 2010 witnessed registration of 2.06 lakh candidates. Around 2.42 lakh students had appeared for the exam in 2009. Worldwide economic recession, technical glitches in the first year of online CAT and grim a placement scenario could be blamed for poor participation of students in 2009. But this year, we are hoping for a better response and so mock test patterns too have been revised," said Anil Nair, Head Academics (South), CL Educate Ltd.

Meanwhile, institutes such as TIME and others too have revised their coaching procedures. "We are getting mixed reactions from students. Most of them seem to be happy as now they won't have to take a call on which section to attempt first. They will not have the privilege to do so. The mock tests and training format has been completely changed and students are getting better prepared to deal with the test this year," said Gulshan Chhabra, course director, TIME.

Each year, the CAT brings with it a lot of surprises for both students and trainers. Institutes are coming up with revised Proctored Mock CAT and many students are expressing their worries on online forums.
"We do not know if this is a welcome move yet. People are talking about how we will not get to decide how much time we dedicate for each section. I am still not sure whether it will of some help at all,"
said Harsh Trivedi, a CAT aspirant.

With the increasing number of IIMs opening up, intake capacity of premier institutes has also gone up. "There will practically be no chance of missing out on an IIM call just because you devoted too little time to a particular section. This is surely a good move," said Anil Nair.
