New Delhi: A Hawk Advance Jet Trainer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Jharkhand on Wednesday, an official said, adding that both pilots ejected safely.

The crash took place around 1.30 p.m. near Baharagora, a small town in the south-east corner of Jharkhand, around 50 km west of Kalaikunda air base in West Bengal.

A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.

"The pilots took off from the Kalaikunda airbase on a routine training sortie," an IAF official said.

"Both the pilots ejected from the aircraft and are safe," the official said.

An IAF rescue team has been dispatched to the crash site to recover the plane wreckage, the official added.
