Ignorance ain't bliss

A few years back, when Delhi-based lawyer Rohit Shekhar openly claimed that he was born out of an illegitimate relationship between congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari and Rohit's mother Ujwala Sharma, his accusations were taken with a pinch of salt. But had top notch congress leaders taken into account the paternity suit filed by the guy in the Delhi High court, the party could have been saved from the shame that Tiwari's alleged sex tapes is bringing.

Now that a sting operation has allegedly found Tiwari in a compromising position with three women in Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhawanu00a0-- his official residenceu00a0-- I think Rohit's claim holds ground. The point that I want to put across is that there is no smoke without fire. So, it doesn't hurt if political parties run a background check on its members before allotting them prestigious positions. Agreed that the chances of conspiracy against senior leaders and bureaucrats by rival groups is very high, but as a fact of the matter, no one would dare to touch a respectable leader without proper proof and valid reason.u00a0u00a0

Another embarrassment to have hit law enforcing agencies is the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case. It's now clear that former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore successfully influenced the apex investigating agency, CBI, to distort facts. Also, he misused his authority to frame false charges of car thefts against Ruchika's brother Ashu. Further, the neverending struggle of the victim's family and friend brought them trauma that lasted for 19 long years. Even after being proved guilty, everyone is surprised with the quantum of punishment in this case. How can men with such wicked intention move up the ladder to the post of DGP? Now that Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Union Law minister Veerappa Moily have directed the investigating team to redo their bit, justice can be expected.

Any political party or agency that wants to be respected must, on day-to-day basis, monitor the development of such cases so that no injustice is done to anyone who matters in the democratic system. To start with, the authorities should help Rohit Shekhar, who was turned away by the court, sighting reasons that the case doesn't fall under their jurisdiction and the filing of the suit was delayed.

A case should be filed against Tiwari for bringing the high office to disrepute, because stern actions like these will decide how a party is looked at, and how much public faith is restored.
