In tune with each other

This is one love story where you definitely hear violins playing in the background. She's the lilting voice behind many chartbusters like Nimbooda, Pyaar Hua Chupke Se, Maar Daala while he has always been a Carnatic music purist. However, music remains the essence of violin maestro L Subramaniam and playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy's marriage. Recently in Mumbai for the Laxminarayana Global Festival in memory of Subramaniam's late father and guru, the couple talked about how music binds them together.

Comparing notes
Says Subramaniam, "She is a versatile singer and a good performer. She understands me very well. I am lucky to have her in my life." Kavita explains, "I have done my bit of Bollywood numbers but now I want to experiment. These days I am more into Carnatic music. I have also started playing the violin and piano. It's my husband's influence."

Kavita's influence on her husband is also visible. Subramaniam has been planning an album for her for the past few years. "We want to release it this year. I like his experimental approach. He's been very brave to always create music from his heart," she says. Although the couple doesn't practise together, Subramaniam does play for her at times in the night. "We have midnight violin playing sessions," laughs Kavita.

Always at home
Infact music forms the soul of their Bangalore household. Explains Subramaniam, "All of us listen to a lot of music. Even our kids - Bindu and Ambi, who also performed with us recently - are involved with music. More often than not Kavita and I end up liking the same songs. At night, while we sit down for a dinner, a part of the conversation is definitely dedicated to music, with our kids telling us about new artists, songs and stuff."

Talking about dinner, Subramaniam is all praises for his wife's outstanding culinary skills. Kavita's quite an expert at Italian dishes, cakes, chocolate chip cookies and other delicacies. "I also enjoy surfing the Internet with my kids. Subramaniam enjoys photography and takes loads of pictures of every new place to travel. Besides, I love dogs and pamper the stray who stays at our place," chirps Kavita.
