India won the first medal of the 11th South Asian Games with the women's cycling team bagging the gold in the time trial competition on Saturday.

The Indian team comprising Rameshwari Devi, Suchitra Devi, Mahidha and V. Rejani took 44 minutes 22.15 seconds to cover the 30-km distance at Khulna.

Earlier in the day, India's second string hockey side led by Ajitesh Roy blanked Nepal 21-0.

Nepal, playing only their second international game after ten years and their first on the an artificial turf, were found wanting in every department and posed no problems to a weak Indian team.
