MHCC's (Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee) had objected to the civic body's current alignment of the road, as it will ruin the view of the iconic Marine Drive

Inching a step ahead on its Rs 12,000-crore dream project of the coastal road, the BMC has received an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the Indian Navy. The Navy has recommended the civic body install CCTV cameras and set up coastal police stations to enhance coastal surveillance.

However, the project is yet to get the most important clearances, from Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change.

The 29.2-km proposed coastal road - starting from Princess Street Flyover to Kandivli —will help in easing traffic that currently chokes up the highways and other roads.

According to a senior civic official, "After navy's recommendations we will construct permanent jetties for marine police boats. As per the earlier plan, temporary jetties will be constructed for loading and unloading the construction materials for the work."

Recently, mid-day had reported about MHCC's (Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee) objection to the civic body's current alignment of the road, as it will ruin the current view of the iconic Marine Drive. The civic body has written to more than 17 departments for NOCs.
