Samson's 63-ball 102 and some terrific striking towards the end helped Daredevils post 205-4 after being sent in to bat. The veteran Indian left-arm pacer then rocked the Pune top-order by sending both openers, Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal, back to the hut by the fifth over with just 34 runs on the board.
Shabhaz Nadeem, Pat Cummins and Chris Morris then picked one wicket each to send Pune crumbling to 54-5 in the eighth over. And once stand-in captain MSâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088Dhoni departed, caught by Karun Nair off Amit Mishra for 11, the writing was on the wall. Pune were bowled out for 108 in 16.1 overs.
Earlier, Samson paced his knock well, and was brilliant on the off side during Power-play. He struck six delightful boundaries in the Power-play, as Daredevils raced to 62 for one at the end of the first six overs. But once Samson lost Rishabh Pant, to whom he played second fiddle in the 43-ball 53-run stand, the right-hander shifted gears beautifully. He toe-ended a full toss delivery from Adam Zampa over long-off in the 15th over, and seemed to be in a different world altogether for the next four overs.
The Kerala batsman struck two fours and four sixes in the next four overs, which got Daredevils closer to the 180-run mark, considered to be par on this wicket. Samson brought up his century too in the process, his first and the first of the IPL 2017, which was studded with eight fours, five sixes.
