After Nilesh Rane approaches HC following a sessions court’s refusal to extend his anticipatory bail application, judge recuses himself

Judge declines to hear Nilesh Rane's bail plea

The Bombay High Court Justice Prakash Naik recused himself from hearing Nilesh Rane’s anticipatory bail application yesterday, and asked the Rane family to approach another bench. The judge recused himself as he had appeared as a lawyer for the other side earlier in another case. The Ranes will be able to approach a bench today. Nilesh can be arrested any time as his anticipatory bail application has been rejected by a lower court.

Former chief minister Narayan Rane’s son Nilesh, a former Member of Parliament of the Congress party, approached the Bombay High Court on Tuesday after a Khed sessions court in Konkan refused to extend
his anticipatory bail.

Nilesh, along with personal assistant Tushar Panchal, and body guard Manish Singh has been booked by Thane police for the alleged assault on and abduction of taluka president of Congress , Sandeep Sawant of Chiplun.

They have been booked for assault, wrongful restraint, kidnapping and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code after they allegedly kidnapped Sawant from Chiplun, and brought him to Rane’s bungalow in Mumbai, on the way assaulting him. Sawant was unable to attend a rally organised by Nilesh in Konkan demanding reservations for the Maratha community as his mother was unwell.

The Khed sessions court that initially granted relief to Nilesh, refused to do so on Monday and refused extension after which his arrest and of the others is evident.
