Wishing to keep the festivities going, catechism students of St Joseph's Church in Airoli organised a cultural programme; handed out presents and gifts too
Navi Mumbai: Wanting to spread the festive cheer and let the celebrations continue, catechism students of St Joseph’s Church in Airoli made their way to a children’s orphanage and a senior citizen’s home in Ambernath. Students said that the visit, which took place on January 5, was to spread joy and cheer all around.
Good times: At the orphanage and old age home, kids put up a cultural programme and even organised a sports carnival
The catechism kids were accompanied by other members of the parish to Anugraha, an orphanage home and Ashray — a senior citizens’ home. The children put on an elaborate show for them and even danced for them. At the orphanage, the children conducted a sports carnival, where everyone played games, such as ring throwing and confetti race.
“We began planning for this event in June and even asked each child to abstain from their favourite food for three days, and then donate that towards this cause,” said George Manachery, a trustee of the parish.
In addition to this, a significant amount was collected through the sale of coupons for Christmas at the church. The funds were then used to buy a water purifier and grinder for the senior citizens’ home.
Father Sinto Challissery said, “We already celebrated Christmas. Usually, we visit an orphanage, where the parish children interact with the children there. But, this year we decided to do something different, and chose to visit this charitable trust. The experience was wonderful and even the kids enjoyed themselves.”
