Between then and now, the two-time finals MVP Bryant will be spending time in the gym rehabilitating the knee, the club said.
During the Lakers' playoff run last season, Bryant had doctors drain the knee to reduce swelling.
Bryant played through several injuries while leading the Lakers to their second straight championship in June.
The surgery is not a complicated procedure and Bryant made a trip to South Africa to watch the World Cup football before getting it done.
Bryant could also need surgery on a broken finger which hampered him throughout the 2009-10 season playoffs.
