Kunal has a good laugh

'I have taken an early retirement!' This is what actor Kunal Khemu would tell people when he was sitting at home waiting for the right kind of roles.

The guy who believes in laughing his way through most situations and did a great job making us laugh in Golmaal 3, talks to CS about how humour helps him stay sane in this crazy world:

Line lagao
What I love the most about comedy is its unpredictability. You never know what tickles the audience. When we write funny lines for a film, we expect the audience to laugh at those lines, but later we see the crowds laughing at something totally unexpected. Unlike emotional scenes, comic sequences can evoke a number of reactions.

I love watching comedy films like Andaz Apna Apna, Padosan, Half Ticket, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and so on. Though I come across as a very serious guy, I can be quite funny at times, but it all depends on my mood.

What's so funny?
Well, I can laugh at any situation. In fact, you would term me sadistic if you heard some of the incidents that I've found humour in. As a kid, I was very observant and felt that people who were unwell often pretended to be sicker when they actually were when they saw others around.

When we returned home after visiting an ailing relative/family friend, I would imitate them. My parents would be absolutely mad at me for this. Likewise, in college my friend and I would sneak out of a restaurant without paying the bill. I bet the the waiter or the owner never found that funny.

My laughter club
Jim Carrey is my king of comedy. He has absolutely no inhibitions, has great energy and makes comedy look so effortless. (Think Dumb and Dumber and Majestic.) It's hard to match up to him.

I also adore Kishore Kumar and Mehmoodsaab. In my latest film, I had the privilege of working with Johnny Lever, someone I had also worked with as a child artist in Raja Hindustani. He is a such a great mimic and actor. And who can forget Govinda's superb comic timing in all his films?

Love and laughter
All of us love laughter. When it comes to the fairer sex, girls certainly love men with a sense of humour. It is easier to spend your life with someone who can give you a good laugh. When you see the lighter side of things, you easily get over fights, frustrations and depression. So, you see, a funny man can send hearts fluttering!
